LSU is SEC West champions for the first time since 2011, but there was not a big celebration after the Tigers clinched with a 56-20 victory over Arkansas. Coach Ed Orgeron says the team strives to accomplish bigger goals.
“There’s a mindset to this football team we have a goal, the goal next week is to beat Texas A&M, we know where we want to go, we don’t talk about it, there will be time to celebrate when we are done,” said Orgeron.
Quarterback Joe Burrow had another solid day on Saturday as he threw for 327 yards and three touchdowns. But Clyde Edwards-Helaire was the story in this contest with 188 yards rushing and three touchdowns. His final carry was for 89 yards and he was only in the game so he could pick up a couple of yards to get over 100 yards.
“Went in, was like get the yard, get out of bounds and we are going to shut it down for the game and it parted like the red sea, ” Edwards-Helaire.
The Tigers can complete an undefeated regular season on Saturday with a win over Texas A-and-M. Edwards-Helaire says LSU is seeking redemption from last year’s seven overtime loss to the Aggies.
“Starting on Monday it’s back to it, because we owe those guys a lot from last year, the pain everything we felt last year, sitting in that stadium, how many hours we sat in it to understand that pain as a player, it doesn’t get any worse than that,” said Edwards-Helaire.
