The college football playoff selection committee has dropped LSU to number two and moved Ohio State to number one in the latest rankings. The Buckeyes just beat a top ten team in Penn State. Tiger Rag Assistant Editor Tyler Nunez says OSU has the same number of quality wins as LSU.
“They’ve played a bunch of Top 50 teams and have slaughtered all of them,” said Nunez. “So analytically they have a tougher strength of schedule than LSU, so beating Penn State pushed them in that direction.”
LSU closes out the regular season by hosting Texas A-and-M, while OSU is at Michigan. Tiger Rag Editor Ron Higgins says the drop in the ranking should provide the Tigers with some extra motivation.
“Obviously there focus this week is Texas A&M, but if there was any part of LSU that was feeling slightly good about themselves or proved themselves completely, well they got the message,” said Higgins.
The C-F-P committee will announce the four playoff teams on December 8th. If the rankings do not change, LSU would play Clemson in a semifinal contest. Nunez says Clemson is undefeated, but do not have a win against a Top 25 team.
“They are not a cupcake, yes their schedule is weak, but they are a team full of talented athletes, they might not be battled test, but they can beat LSU,” said Nunez.
