The Saints are NFC South Champs for a third consecutive season as they clinched the division title with a 26-18 win over Atlanta on Thanksgiving night. Taysom Hill set the tone, by blocking a punt that set up his three-yard touchdown catch. He also had a 30-yard touchdown run.
“When you have guys like Mike Thomas, Alvin Kamara, Jared Cook, the list goes on, it kind of creates opportunities for little old me because it creates so much attention that’s put on those guys,” said Hill.
The Saints sacked Atlanta Q-B Matt Ryan nine times. Cam Jordan had four of them.
Quarterback Drew Brees threw for 184 yards and a touchdown.
“We got bigger fish to fry sort of speak, but we got a list of goals and objectives and we just knock them down one-by-one, but at the end of the day, let’s keep it simple right now, let’s just focus on playing our best football,” said Brees.
Jared Cook was the Saints leading receiver with 85 yards and Alvin Kamara rushed the ball 11 times for 61 yards.
It’s the eighth division title in franchise history, the sixth under Coach Sean Payton. And it’s the earliest the Saints have ever clinched a division title.
“I think you can’t overlook winning your division and getting back to the playoffs, certainly trying to get back to the NFC Championship game, but the ultimate goal is always to win a Super Bowl,” said Hill.
The Saints next game is Sunday, December 8th at home against the 49ers, who face a big test on Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens.
