Grambling State completes one of the institution’s largest fundraising campaigns, collecting more than $6.6 million over the course of three years. University Vice President of Advancement Marc Newman says the school saw a 150% increase in alumni participation with more than 5,700 gifts over the course of the campaign.
“Grambling probably has more alums who are willing to give than any university out there. It’s just putting the structure behind our giving opportunities and we were able to do that,” said Newman.
Newman says the money will support scholarships and the institution’s programs.
“There are initiatives to support our growth for our medical facilities, core faculty development, and then as we look at just our general endowment in the university, we look at growing that,” said Newman.
Newman says basketball star Magic Johnson’s company, SodexoMAGIC, gave the largest unrestricted donation of the campaign.
“He is our new sole food service provider but as part of that contract, he gave a $2 million contribution to the university. He’s a big supporter of not just Grambling, but higher education in general,” said Newman.
