Four LSU stars make first-team All-SEC as the Purple and Gold head into the College Football playoffs with the 1st seed, and an undefeated record.
The offenses big three of QB Joe Burrow, running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, and receiver Ja’Marr Chase featured on the offensive first team
“A lot of it does have to do with scheme and the fact that Joe Brady came in kinda revitalized this offensive team with the spread, that being said a lot goes to the maturing of these players,” . Tiger Rag Assistant Editor Tyler Nunez.
No. 9 Alabama led the Conference in total 1st team nods with five.
LSU’s lone defensive first-teamer was freshman cornerback Derrick Stingley Jr., who also nabbed Newcomer of the Year. Nunez says Stingley may end his career as LSU best ever defensive back.
“I’ll put it this way, I’ve never seen a freshman with a ceiling the way that Derrick Stingley has, he seems to be NFL ready,” says Nunez
Stingley has nabbed six picks and defended 15 passes, the second-most in the nation.
Nunez says safety Jacoby Stevens was a shocking snub on the list despite his numerous weekly awards and consistently high level of play.
“Phenomenal performer for LSU all season, probably the most consistent defensive player they had all year. He made SEC Defensive Player of the Week Awards and he didn’t make it all to the All-SEC Team,” Nunez
Guard Damian Lewis, receiver Justin Jefferson, linebacker K’Lavon Chaisson, corner Kristian Fulton, and safety Grant Delpit made the second-team All-SEC.
