The House Judiciary Committee votes to send two Articles of Impeachment to the House floor for an Impeachment vote sometime next week.
Northwest Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson sits on the Committee and railed against the decision. He says the President’s actions related to Ukraine don’t meet the constitutional bar for Impeachment.
“Every high school civics student at home can read it’s plain language and see what is expressly required to Impeach a President. You need Treason, Bribery, or a high crime and misdemeanor, and none of that exists here,” says Johnson.
The Articles focus on Abuse of Power related to an alleged scheme to pressure Ukraine to investigate Trump’s political rivals and Obstruction related to the Administration’s refusal to cooperate with the Impeachment inquiry.
“There is zero direct evidence in the record of these proceedings to show that President Trump engaged in any scheme of any kind as they have alleged,” says Johnson.
Johnson says the fast pace of the hearings are due to pressure on Democratic lawmakers by their base to deliver an Impeachment by Christmas.
“They are trying to meet their own arbitrary, completely reckless, and Machiavellian timeline to take down a President they loathe,” says Johnson.
New Orleans Congressman Cedric Richmond also sat on the Committee. He voted to Impeach.
