Alexandria is among the areas getting a clearer picture today of the devastation left by yesterday’s twister outbreak. Mayor Jeff Hall says damage to homes, businesses, and churches is most concentrated on the western side of the city.
“The main thing is that there were no fatalities and we thank the good Lord for that, but we’ve got a lot of work to do. We have quite a bit of damage to a variety of areas,” said Hall.
Hall says about a thousand homes were without electricity during the peak of a power outage. Closed roads slowed down the work of power crews.
“We are in the mode of restoration. Roads are clear pretty much now from tree debris and other debris, so they are passable,” said Hall.
Hall says the Johnny Downs Sports Complex saw extensive damage.
“It is a tremendous amount of damage done to Johny Downs without a doubt. It’s pretty much leveled, but we will figure it all out and rebuild,” said Hall.
