A spirited debate is ongoing on the House floor today ahead of tonight’s vote to impeach President Donald Trump. New Orleans Congressman Cedric Richmond is the lone member of Louisiana’s House delegation who supports removing President Trump out of office because he’s doing irreparable harm to our country.
“He’s shooting holes in our constitution on Pennsylvania Avenue and our house, the people’s house must defend the constitution from a domestic enemy to the rule of law… Donald Trump,” Richmond said.
Richmond says Trump abused his power by pressuring Ukraine into investigating a political rival in exchange for military aid.
“I’ve heard Republicans say, ‘Why are we rushing to judgement?’ It’s not a rush to judgement, it’s a rush to justice,” Richmond said.
But Republican Louisiana Congressman Mike Johnson from Benton says it’s the House Democrats who are abusing their power.
“They have feverishly produced and pursued this impeachment 20 times faster than the impeachment investigation of Bill Clinton and along the way they have steam-rolled over constitutionally guaranteed due process,” Johnson said.
