Rumors are swirling that current Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne could be the next president of the LSU System, replacing F. King Alexander. During his monthly call-in show, Governor John Bel Edwards did not shoot down those rumors.
“I’m not going to say it’s not possible, he has been a great Commissioner of Administration, I don’t have a crystal ball to know what his interest level is or what the board is going to do,” said Edwards.
Dardenne is Edwards’ top budget advisor. Before joining the Edwards Administration, the former LSU grad ran for governor, served as Lt. Governor, Secretary of State and state senator. Edwards says there’s a reason why Dardenne is an attractive candidate for the job.
“He’s from Baton Rouge, he went to LSU, he was the student government president there and he’s got a resume as it relates to all of the things he did in Louisiana,” said Edwards.
Alexander is leaving to become the next president at Oregon State. Edwards believes the LSU Board of Supervisors will have a lot of good candidates to choose from.
“And the board is going to have a tough job to wade through that and pick the very best for the university and the state,” said Edwards.
