Despite a dominant 42-10 win over Carolina Sunday that gave the Black and Gold a 13-3 record, the Saints will not get a week off and instead will host sixth-seeded Minnesota on Sunday. New Orleans needed a win and a loss by either the Packers or 49ers to get a week off. Coach Sean Payton says it was out of their hands, but the team certainly held up its end of the bargain.
“We wanted to get our 13th win that’s hard to do, we took the approach all week that we were working on our edge,” said Payton.
Drew Brees tossed three touchdowns and 253 yards while running back Alvin Kamara continued his late-season resurgence with two TDs.
The defense has allowed just 45 points over the last three games.
Payton says they are not sweating over missing out on a first-round bye.
“You find yourself after you’ve done this long enough to focus on the things you can control, fortunately, we are in position to be in the postseason, we know we are going to be playing a home game,” said Payton.
New Orleans will host Minnesota at noon on Sunday. It will be a rematch of the 2018 playoff game that saw the Vikings win on a touchdown pass on the final play of the game.
If the Black and Gold win, they’ll head to Green Bay to face the Packers.
