A big weekend of national championship game events kicks-off Saturday with a fan fest at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans and musical acts performing at Woldenberg Park. New Orleans host committee executive director Jeff Hundley says fans can also participate in media day at Xavier University on Saturday.
“That’s a unique event where you can listen in to each individual interview and fans have proven to like that at other venues where championships have been held,” said Hundley.
On Sunday night at Mardi Gras World, it’s the Taste of the Championship. Local residents and fans can sample gourmet food and drinks. Proceeds benefit the CFP Foundation’s Extra Yard for Teachers Initiative.
Hundley says even though Baton Rouge is just up the road from New Orleans, they expect hotel capacity in New Orleans to be close to capacity.
“When LSU comes to town they fill hotel rooms and furthermore buy up meeting room space for parties and what have you,” said Hundley.
