100 people, all Clemson and LSU alumni, coaches, and school personnel are getting together Saturday before the CFP Championship Game to help out the hungry.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Greater New Orleans and Acadiana spokesperson Jay Vise says they just recently received two tons of rice courtesy of Falcon Rice of Crowley.
“All these volunteers are going to be responsible for repacking tons of Louisiana grown rice into two and five-pound bags more suitable for food pantries and soup kitchens,” says Vise.
The rice will then be distributed across 23 southern Louisiana parishes.
Vise says they fully expect there to be a little competitive spirit Saturday as the teams try to out bag the other, but it’s all in good fun.
“For both teams, we would like to think that more important than the love of football is the love of giving back to the community, and we are so excited to have these 50 LSU and 50 Clemson volunteers,” says Vise.
Both LSU and the Clemson alumni associations have done this kind of volunteer work at previous bowl games, and Vise says they couldn’t wait to do it for the big dance.
“We were actually approached by the LSU Alumni Association and the Clemson Alumni Association to see if we could do something like this, and we said absolutely,” says Vise.
They’ll be bagging the rice at Second Harvest Food Bank in Harahan.
