LSU didn’t shoot well, but somehow pulled off a 60-59 win over Mississippi State. Skylar Mays drained a 19-footer at the buzzer with a man in his face to keep the Tigers in a tie for first place in the SEC. It was Mays only made bucket of the 2nd half as he finished with 11 points.
The Tigers needed the heroics after Mississippi State’s Reggie Perry gave the Bulldogs the lead with a driving layup with four seconds left.
Emmit Williams led LSU with 17 points and Charles Manning had 15 points on a night when the Tigers got a combined 11 points from Darius Days and Javonte Smart.
LSU shot 37% from the field, including a 2-of-21 from three-point land. The Tigers also struggled from the free throw line, 14-of-23. State out rebounded LSU 49-31.
But LSU forced 18 turnovers and scored 24 points off of those turnovers.
LSU is now 11-4, 3-0 in the SEC. Instead of going to New Orleans to watch the national championship game, the Tigers will head to College Station to take on Texas A&M, who is 2-1 in the SEC.
