Former LSU wide receiver Odell Beckham Junior’s conduct following the national championship game has him in trouble with the law. The New Orleans Police Department has issued an arrest warrant for Beckham for slapping an officer on the rear end. NFL analyst Mike Detillier says Beckham’s behavior went too far.
“Slapping a cop, come on, you know that’s going to get you in trouble, especially in today’s world where they have cameras all over the place,” said Detillier.
There’s a video of the slap which happened during the postgame celebration in LSU’s locker room. He’s wanted on a charge of simple battery, which is a misdemeanor.
Beckham has also been in the news for his money handshakes with a few players after the game. Detillier says O-B-J has been a huge supporter of the LSU football team, but the relationship might need a time out.
“I think there will be a sit down with Odell to say hey listen, it might be better off that you take a little hiatus from the program and let things cool down,” said Detillier.
Beckham’s current team, the Cleveland Browns say their wide receiver is cooperating with the authorities about the incident with the officer and LSU says they are working with the NCAA about the money handshakes. Detillier says any player who still has remaining eligibility will likely be asked to return the money.
“I think that would be the first thing and I think they would throw it to LSU and listen you may have to suspend Odell from being around the program for a year,” said Detillier.
