President Donald Trump welcomes the national champion LSU Tigers to the White House today. The Bayou Bengals start their day with a tour of the National Museum of African American History and Culture, then it’s over to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue for a tour of the White House and a meeting with the President.
Baton Rouge Congressman Garret Graves says the president saw LSU play in person twice this year and came away a fan.
“With the Heisman Trophy winner, and the amazing recognition that our receivers, running back, and coaches have received this year, this is a really historic team, and I think that the President’s actions confirm that,” said Graves.
Graves was in a suite at the Superdome with President Trump and says the President tries to remain impartial on who he pulls for, but…
“He would just lean over and say ‘That was a really good play,’ or ‘That quarterback is remarkable,’ or things along those lines but I don’t know how you could possibly go to two LSU football games, watch that energy, watch that performance, and not leave a fan,” said Graves.
When the Clemson Tigers were the champs last year, they visited DC during the partial government shutdown, and were fed fast food.
“We’re actually working with the White House. We suggested that Raising Canes would be a good option to be served, but we were working with them yesterday to get this all nailed down, there wasn’t a final decision made,” said Graves.
