A new tarp is up so the remains of a worker at the collapsed Hard Rock Hotel construction site in New Orleans are no longer visible. Strong winds pushed the previous tarp away, briefly exposing the legs of a dead man. New Orleans Fire Chief Tim McConnell says it is not safe to pull the victim from the wreckage.
“I wish there was a better way, I wish we can give these families closure must sooner, but risking life for recovery is never acceptable and we’ve talked with industry experts,” said McConnell.
Pictures of the victim’s legs dangling from the debris made the rounds on social media Wednesday after the original tarp shifted. McConnell urged the public from distributing those graphic images.
“Anyone who would think that posting anything like this or broadcasting anything that draws attention to this is simply reprehensible,” said McConnell.
McConnell says it’s unsafe to try the pry the man’s body from the wreckage, but they hope the remains of two of the victims who died inside the collapsed site will be recovered after a controlled implosion that’s scheduled for March.
The hotel was under construction when it came crashing down in October killing a total of three.
