Onlineschoolsreport.com ranks Northwestern State University’s online Bachelor of General Studies as the number two program in the nation. The rankings looked at various factors including student satisfaction and median debt by program.
“We’ve been one of the leaders in the state in online education for the last 20 years. About the last 15 years, we’ve had the Bachelor of General Studies online and to be nationally ranked, it’s an honor,” said Executive Director of Academic Advising Steve Hicks.
The school has over 20 online degree programs and Hicks says the general studies program is an appropriate field of study for those already in the workforce who may have an employer that requires a degree for upward mobility.
A majority of the curriculum’s students are over the age of 24, and Hicks says it fits their needs whether full time or part-time.
“They have life, they have work, and they have family and they can integrate this curriculum to best suit their needs,” said Hicks.
Hicks says a majority of the students come from the region.
“But because we are cost-effective and now I think because of this feature, we should get more and more students throughout the nation as just opposed to the region,” said Hicks.
Data sources for the rankings include the National Center for Education Statistics and the US Department of Education’s College Scoreboard.
