After guiding LSU to a national title, head coach Ed Orgeron has agreed to a six-year contract extension worth 42-million dollars. Tiger Rag Editor Ron Higgins says Orgeron is now among the Top 10 highest-paid coaches in college football.
“As an interim and his first contract was extremely low for a head coach, but he made the sacrifice because he wanted to pay his assistant coaches a lot of money, but he has proven his worth,” said Higgins.
The contract extension is pending approval of the LSU Board of Supervisors. The deal keeps Coach O’ in Baton Rouge through the 2026 season. Higgins says there were doubters when former athletics director Joe Alleva hired Orgeron as the head coach in 2016, but it’s turned out to be a perfect fit.
“He’s always wanted this job, these are his people, and he connects with the people of this state like no other coach I’ve ever seen in college football,” said Higgins.
Higgins doesn’t see the big-money contract slowing down Orgeron’s work ethic.
“He goes from the national championship celebration parade on Saturday and it’s back to work, to him it’s like next, let’s go out and try to build something again,” said Higgins.
