Two people are dead after a drag racing accident in Baton Rouge on Saturday. One of the victims was an innocent bystander riding his bike from Jeanerette. Baton Rouge Police Sergeant Don Coppola says one of the car’s racing lost control and struck the other
“At that time the vehicles left the roadway, striking a bicyclist who was off the road, resulting in the death of the bicyclist along with one of the drivers of the vehicles,” said Coppola.
The surviving driver, 57-year-old Lattimore Brock of Baton Rouge faces numerous charges.
“Two counts of vehicular homicide, DWI, drag racing, failure to maintain control, and reckless driving,” said Coppola.
56-year-old Christopher Brock of Baker, a driver of the B-M-W, died at the scene. Twenty-four-year-old Deondrick Rudd of Jeanerette is the bicyclist who also died at the scene.
“Not sure if he was actually in motion or just standing on the side of the road with the bicycle, but an innocent bystander, such an unfortunate situation,” said Coppola.
Rudd’s relatives say he planned on proposing to his girlfriend on Valentine’s Day.
