Southern University Ag Center and Ilera Holistic Healthcare release their line of hemp-derived CBD oil known as ALAFIA. Executive Director for the Southern Institute for Medicinal Plants Dr. Janana Snowden says rollout gives students the opportunity to learn about various aspects of the medical cannabis industry.
“Every aspect of it from the legal aspect to the medical to the business, so we want to make sure that when they leave Southern University, they are well equipped,” said Snowden.
CBD is non-psychoactive. The product is now available over-the-counter at eight of the state’s nine marijuana licensed pharmacies. Snowden says the reception for the product’s introduction to market has been off to a promising start.
“I was just sent a text message showing that we’ve made Forbes Magazine, so great reception so far. As I was leaving the facility, patients were coming in to purchase the product,” said Snowden.
Southern is the first HBCU to release CBD products to be sold in Louisiana. Two formulas of ALAFIA tinctures, Isolate CBD and Full Spectrum CBD, are available now with additional CBD products from Southern coming soon.
“Down the line you can expect topicals and creams, oils, and things of that nature,” said Snowden.
The tinctures come in two levels of potency, 500mg for $40 and 1000mg for $80.
