Docville Farm in St. Bernard Parish is the home of the third annual Cook-off for the Coast on Saturday. Spokesperson for National Wildlife Federation’s Vanishing Paradise Erin Willhoft says the culinary competition will feature free tastings from fourteen different cook teams.
“Battling to be first place in four different categories. They are competing in air, land, water, and crowd favorite categories,” said Willhoft.
The event will also feature live music and other family fun. Willhoft says the idea behind the food selection is to promote the bounty of the marshlands in St. Bernard Parish.
“Pretty much anything that you can harvest and bring to your table from St. Bernard Parish you can see featured at the cook-off,” said Willhoft.
Last year the event raised about $10,000 and is on track to hit that same amount. Willhoft says funds raised from sponsors and cooking teams’ fees are going toward coastal restoration for the Mississippi River Delta with the Chandeleur Sound Living Shoreline program.
“We’re losing a football field of land every one hundred minutes here in Louisiana. If we want to protect what we have for our future generations, it is vital that we get started now,” said Willhoft.
The event takes place from 11am to 3pm and is open to the public. More details can be found at coastcookoff.com.
