Shreveport Police charge 37-year-old Gregory Jones for the Sunday night shooting death of his girlfriend 43-year-old Tasha Mayberry. Shreveport Police Corporal Angie Willhite says officers were responding to call that initially appeared to be an argument near the intersection of West 73rd Street and Union Avenue.
“Officers arrived there and located a female inside the vehicle that had been shot multiple times. She was later identified as Ms. Tasha Mayberry and was transported to Oschner LSU Health where she later died as the result of her injuries,” said Willhite.
Willhite says investigators worked throughout the night and located the suspect in a vacant apartment. Jones was shot in the upper body by police.
“They entered that vacant apartment and located Jones hiding in a closet. He pointed a gun at our officers and one of our officers returned fired,” said Willhite.
Jones has a history of arrests in Shreveport and had open warrants from previous alleged attacks on the victim. Willhite says Jones remains hospitalized from his injuries.
“They initially thought his injuries were life-threatening but I believe they are still listed as serious but they expect him to recover,” said Willhite.
Detectives also arrested a relative of the victim, 18-year-old Tristan Mayberry for Accessory After the Fact to Second Degree Murder.
