The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality adds the first all-electric car to it’s vehicle fleet. DEQ’s first Electric Vehicle, or EV, is a Chevrolet Bolt. LDEQ Spokesperson Gregory Langley says they hope to add more EVs to the fleet but first they need more EV infrastructure in place.
“Right now we are kinda in the middle of this chicken and the egg conundrum. If you’ve got an electric car, you need to find a place to charge them, but that is improving a great deal,” says Langley.
Langley says the EV offers an EPA-estimated 259 miles of range on a single charge, nearly 10-percent more than previous models. But most importantly it’s good for the environment.
“This is a zero emissions vehicle so you are not putting anything into the environment other than what is produced in the process of generating electricity,” says Langley.
DEQ hopes by setting the example of having the first EV that other departments will follow their lead along with citizens of the Bayou State. Langley says the car performs well for a passenger vehicle.
“It’s very responsive, it performs well, it is comfortable and we think that if more people use them that it will be a big benefit for the environment,” says Langley.
The car will be easy spot it on the road with its custom wrap and DEQ logo.
