At the NFL draft combine in Indianapolis, former LSU quarterback Joe Burrow put to rest rumors that he would not play for the Bengals if Cincinnati selected him with the top overall pick. Burrow spoke to a large group of reporters Tuesday morning.
“I’m not going to not play, I’m a ballplayer, whoever picks me I’m going to show up,” said Burrow.
Some NFL reporters have speculated Burrow would pressure Cincinnati not to draft him. Burrow will not throw at the combine, but he looks forward to meeting with several teams, including the Bengals.
“I think we are going to meet with the Bengals in a couple of days, I’m looking forward to just talking ball, seeing what they are about, seeing the offense they run, seeing how they think about ball,” said Burrow.
JaMarcus Russell was the last LSU quarterback drafted with the top pick in 2007. But Russell turned out to be a big bust in Oakland. Burrow is confident he’ll succeed in the NFL.
“I think it starts in preparation, I’m really confident in my preparation, I feel like I prepare better than anybody else and that’s why I’m so confident, because I feel like I know what’s going to happen on Saturdays before it happens, hopefully, I can carry that over to Sundays,” said Burrow.
LSU’s Pro Day is April 3rd. Burrow plans to throw for NFL general managers, coaches and scouts on that day.
