Louisiana now has 13 presumptive cases of COVID-19, a number that’s ballooned from just one reported case Monday. We now have coronavirus cases in St. Tammany, LaFourche, Iberia and Caddo parishes. The elderly are at risk for the most devastating impacts of the virus, so Governor Edwards says recent developments at a New Orleans nursing home are concerning.
“We can now update you based on the recent testing that three residents total are now presumptively positive from the Lambeth House,” said Edwards.
Louisiana nursing homes are screening visitors and restricting who can enter their facilities.
There are now ten total cases in Orleans Parish.
“Most of which don’t necessarily relate to each other that we do have community spread at least in Greater New Orleans area,” said Office of Public Health Assistant Secretary Alex Billioux.
The NBA has suspended its season and the NCAA says spectators will not be present at March Madness games, including the Women’s Final Four that is scheduled to take place in New Orleans on April 3rd and 5th. The SEC is not allowing fans at their contests through at least March 30th.
Governor Edwards expects the announcement of more event changes, postponements, and cancellations will be coming.
“I would hope that the people of Louisiana understand these choices are tough but they are going to be made in consultation with guidance were receiving from CDC talking to the office of public health and certainly with local governments,” said Edwards.
