Congressman Clay Higgins (R) represents Louisiana's 3rd Congressional District
Southwest Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins releases a video aimed at Governor Edwards, criticizing his handling of the coronavirus pandemic. Edwards ordered the closure bars, movie theatres, casinos, and limiting restaurant service to carry out, delivery, and drive-thrus. Higgins says it’s hard to comprehend the Edwards’s decisions.
“This is a serious economic impact, man! You’re hurting the citizens that we serve. These people that own these businesses, they can make up their own mind. They’re not stupid,” said Higgins.
Higgins tells the Governor just because he thinks he knows best, he shouldn’t be limiting the freedom of citizens.
“They know how to limit contact and adjust their services to respond to this virus. It’s a virus, man! We’re not being invaded by the Chinese army, we’ve been impacted by a Chinese virus. Okay?” said Higgins.
Higgins says he won’t go down quietly about this and wants to know what statute the Governor plans on charging citizens with for violations.
“The Governor’s proclamation? Man, that’s not a statute! You can’t put that on a probable cause, bring that to a judge, say ‘I intend to take this American’s freedom away from him,’ or seize some of his property because our money is our property,” said Higgins.
The Governor’s office has responded saying Congressman Higgins clearly cares more about Facebook views than Louisianans.
Congressman Higgins clearly cares more about Facebook views than Louisianans. In times like these we need to come together to protect our people. It is incredibly disappointing that the Congressman is instead focused on attacking the Governor. #lalege #lagov #covid19 https://t.co/ddUx5iZRwf
