Three state parks are being used to house people who are awaiting their coronavirus test results. Lt. Gov. Billy Nungesser says the test subjects that are being brought are those from nursing homes, the homeless, and people that just don’t have anywhere else to go.
“When the test comes back, if they’re negative, they are returned to the nursing home over wherever they came from. If it is positive, then they will be moved to a facility to be treated,” said Nungesser.
Nungesser says the use of individual cabins is a better idea than using hotel rooms for the same purpose.
“You run the risk of infecting everyone. If you put them in a single cabin or a trailer, they brought in a hundred trailers to Bayou Segnette, they would only have to clean and fumigate that one facility before they could use it again,” said Nungesser.
Nungesser says all the food and supplies will be furnished to those at state parks will be furnished by officials.
“It’s all being done through the Governor’s team that’s working in Baton Rouge and they have contracted their suppliers to do that,” said Nungesser.
