Insurance Commissioner Jim Donelon says he expects other car insurers in Louisiana to follow Allstate’s lead and offer rebates to customers for premiums paid during the stay at home order.
Allstate is paying back customers in the state 13 million dollars in rebates. Donelon says it’s because the company is saving a lot of money right now.
“This money that Allstate is passing back is as a result of the windfall from the unexpected decrease in miles driven across America,” says Donelon.
Donelon says the company is paying back roughly 600 million dollars to policyholders in the US and is a rebate for the months of April and May.
The Commissioner also noted a few other changes to statewide insurance policy, including one big change that “I issued an emergency rule forcing all insurers to give that grace period, or moratorium on cancellation or non-renewal for 60 days retroactive back to March 11th.”
Donelon says Allstate has added another perk besides just rebates.
“This follows their voluntary addition to their coverage for delivery service that drivers who are unemployed may be able to access,” says Donelon.
