Senator Bill Cassidy filed his papers today in Baton Rouge to run for a second term in office against a slew other candidates.
Cassidy’s opponents took turns digging at this record since qualifying began Wednesday, but the state’s senior Senator says he’ll stand behind his work over the past six years.

“You don’t like that record? Then that must mean that you don’t like something about doing something for mental health, you don’t like something about doing something for opioid addiction, and I can do down the list. I am, I am ready to debate that,” says Cassidy.
The state Democratic Party and Shreveport Mayor Adrian Perkins have slammed the Senator, accusing him of being M-I-A during the pandemic. Cassidy says he’s been in daily contact with constituents.
“In order to help get schools open, help get the payroll protection program down to employers, helping people who were due a stimulus check and have not yet received it,” says Cassidy.
Perkins is the most prominent opponent to sign up to run against Cassidy. He has reportedly received backing from national Democrats and is hiring a professional campaign team.
Despite being heavily favored the Senator says he plans on running a statewide reelection effort, but how’s he going to pull that off in the middle of a pandemic?
“Boy, that is going to be a work in progress huh? Obviously you can’t work a restaurant because the restaurant is closed, but on the other had social media gives us a lot of ways to connect with people,” says Cassidy.
