Governor Edwards feels the latest metrics are showing the state is trending in the right direction in the fight against the spread of COVID-19. The state overall has seen its daily percentage of positive tests drop below 10 percent. Broken down by region, Edwards says four out of nine are testing below that mark.
“We have the remaining five regions that are testing above, but all of those are actually below 12% so what I’m saying is we’re seeing improvement as a state, but we are also seeing improvement in every region of the state,” said Edwards.
On Thursday, the state reported the largest single-day drop in COVID hospitalizations in three months as the total fell to 1,087, a decrease of 73. For the first time since July 9th, COVID hospitalizations are below eleven-hundred. Governor John Bel Edwards says less than a month ago, there were 16-hundred coronavirus patients hospitalized.
“Had we spend the next three weeks on the same trajectory we had been on the three weeks we got to that 1,600, today we would have more than 1,000 people hospitalized in the state than what we currently do,” said Edwards.
With colleges now open across the state, Edwards says it is vital to be transparent and as timely as possible with the accurate reporting of COVID data.
“We do believe that the information pertaining to these institutions of higher ed should be reported by those institutions,” said Edwards.
