For Louisiana residents looking to help in the Hurricane Laura recovery efforts, the state has a website called volunteer-Louisiana-dot-gov. On that site, you can view current disaster recovery volunteer needs. Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser is confident the state will recover because citizens came together in 2016 after the south Louisiana flood and rebuilt 15 years ago after Hurricanes Katrina and Rita.
“We all looked hopeless back then and how we were able to rebuild New Orleans, St. Bernard, Plaquemines those hard-hit parishes after every storm, so we’ll get through this, because that’s what we do, we’ll help our neighbors,” said Nungesser.
Nungesser encourages you to visit volunteerlouisiana.gov and help out.
“Where we sign up volunteers and you can also make donations a group of your choice that’s helping in different aspects of the recovery,” said Edwards.
The state recognized the 15-year anniversary of Hurricane Katrina on Saturday. That storm killed over 15-hundred Louisiana residents.
“One way we can honor those that lost their life is by reaching out and helping our neighboring parishes and helping those get back on their feet, much like everyone did after Hurricane Katrina,” said Edwards.
