Facebook takes down a post by Southwest Louisiana Congressman Clay Higgins for threatening to shoot armed protestors that come to Lafayette. LSU Shreveport Poli Sci Professor Jeff Sadow says the post is Clay Higgins being Clay Higgins.
“He got elected conveying this image of being tough and willing to stand up to crime, Washington, bureaucrats, entrenched politicians, those kinds of things. Talking tough is nothing new for Congressman Higgins,” said Sadow.
Higgins posted pictures of an armed black militia group indicating that if they came to the state to protest, he would “drop any ten of you where you stand” and “if you show up like this, you won’t walk away.”
Sadow says social media giants coming down on post from politicians started picking up steam several years ago.
“In 2015 with the incidents in South Carolina, but it certainly does seem to be becoming more publicized now with these kinds of things. They’re private companies so they can do what they want,” said Sadow.
Sadow expects to see more and more inflammatory posts from politicians on social media as November draws near.
“There is an election coming up, so I think that you are going to find politicians on all sides of the aisle will be seeing increasingly these kinds of statements. They are out there to drive voter bases to the polls,” said Sadow.
