Hurricane Laura damage in Lake Charles August 31, 2020.
Only 2,500 Entergy Louisiana customers in Cameron and Calcasieu parishes remain without power just under a month after Laura devastated southwest Louisiana.
Spokesperson Brandon Scardigli said restoring power to the hard-hit area has been a monumental task.
“Just in Lake Charles and Sulphur alone we have replaced 10,500 poles, 3,000 transformers, and over 22,000 strands of wire in less than a month’s time,” said Scardigli.
Entergy Louisiana sustained an estimated 1.25 to 1.4 billion dollars in damage to its infrastructure as a result of the storm.
Scardigli said they managed to get power back to 99 percent of their customers by bringing a 13,000 worker strong army into southwest Louisiana.
“That was made up from a variety of Entergy crews and contractors. We actually had crews from I believe 31 total states and I believe a few from Canada,” said Scardigli.
About 13,000 total customers remain without power in Cameron and Calcasieu parishes.
Scardigli said those 2,500 customers are scattered throughout the parish and not in just one geographical area. He says they’re mostly homes that were severely damaged.
“Those are a little more individualized so it is more going in and getting one or two customers on at a time versus getting those couple hundred of couple thousand on at once that we do right away,” said Scardigli.
