NBA Hall of Famer and LSU legend Shaquille O’Neal has to update his resume, as he’s now a Special Reserve Deputy with the St Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office. Shaq dropped by the office while the boss was away at training and now Sheriff Becket Breaux is having to adjust his budget.
“And it’s a great thing for us to have to put him in a uniform. By the way the uniform, we have to special order, you know it’s a 4X-shirt and 52-length pants, so they may have to special make that pant, but we’re gonna get it covered,” said Breaux.
Breaux has been good friends with the 7-foot-1 basketball icon and broadcaster, and their relationship inspired him to asked Shaq to join the team.
“I felt that his mentoring and coaching and kids look up to him. The kids of St. Marin’s Parish are our kids, everyone’s kids, and we look forward to working with him and having him on a great team,” said Breaux.
Breaux says despite Shaq’s busy schedule, he will be active with the department, helping to train and mentor staff via ZOOM. But Breaux will have to update a patrol unit for his newest hire.
“We have to find a large vehicle to fit in. But you know he’ll jump in the truck with me and we’ll patrol when he’s in town. So, don’t be surprised when he shows up on a complaint,” said Breaux.
Even though Shaq towers on the staff physically they look to him for more reasons than that.
“Law enforcement now, you know we’re getting a bad rap, and Mr. Shaquille O’Neal being part of our team I think we’re going to do great things,” said Breaux.
