Over the past two days, the state has reported over 45-hundred new coronavirus cases. This is why Governor John Bel Edwards is asking Louisiana residents to not have large family gatherings for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday
“We’re asking people to really find a way to celebrate Thanksgiving but to do it safely which means to do it virtually to a large degree.”
Edwards says not only are cases on the rise, but the percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive is on the rise, which he says increases the chance that someone at a large Thanksgiving celebration has COVID.
“You roll the dice and engage in normal activity and that gathering is much more likely to pay for that than in the past because it’s much more likely that someone there is Covid-19 positive and contagious.”
Currently, the state is in Phase 3 coronavirus restrictions, which allows for restaurants, salons, retail stores, and churches to operate at 75-percent capacity. Crowd sizes are limited to a maximum of 25 people. But the governor says tighter restrictions are possible if the state is not showing signs of slowing the spread.
“I will have to make those decisions if necessary in order to preserve the capacity of our hospitals to deliver life-saving care.”
