There’s an $11,000 reward for the arrest and conviction related to the death of a black bear that was illegally killed last month in St. Mary Parish. Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries spokesperson Adam Einck said the 350-pound adult male bear was found on November 9th off Log Bayou Road and believes the bear was shot by a rifle a few days before.
“In Louisiana, there’s no open season for black bears, it’s illegal to hunt them. In this case maybe an opportunity for someone that saw one on the side of the road and decided to take a shot at it,” said Einck.
Einck said this is the second black bear found shot in St. Mary Parish this year.
“We don’t know if it’s in connection or not, but back in of May 2020, earlier this year, there was another black bear that was found shot maybe about four or five miles from where this one was found,” said Einck.
Einck said there’s a significant amount of money that’s been offering to solve the crimes, the reward for the bear found last month is $11,000 and the reward for the bear found in May is $6,000.
“If anyone has any information that could lead to an arrest or conviction, in this case, we’d really like for anybody that has information to come forward,” said Einck.
