The Louisiana Workforce Commission says the state added over 29,000 jobs from September to October. LWC Secretary Ava Dejoie said those numbers are in large part due to the Hurricanes.
“We did experience an uptick the previous month and still continue with total employment going up, but a slight downturn from month to month and we attributed largely to the hurricanes in the Lake Charles region,” said Dejoie.
We ended October at 1,883,000 total jobs. That’s down 112,000 jobs from the same time last year.
Dejoie said they’ve seen growth in the Baton Rouge and New Orleans regions.
“That is one of the strange things about disasters, a lot of people from the Lake Charles area are actually living in New Orleans,” said Dejoie.
As for the future job growth, Dejoie said it’s all dependent on if residents continue to mask up and socially distance.
“If you have COVID you can’t go to work, if you do you risk infecting other people which in turn has a cyclical effect,” said Dejoie.
