The 87th annual Sugar Bowl is Friday night in New Orleans and it’s a much different event this year due to the pandemic. Ohio State and Clemson will play in the national semifinal game and Sugar Bowl CEO Jeff Hundley says only 3,000 fans will be in attendance and none of their other events will take place.
“So we’ve canceled our parade, we’ve canceled our event in the French Quarter on New Year’s Eve that’s always a big hit with our fans who are in from out of town,” said Hundley.
Hundley says they are looking forward to a great game between the Tigers and Buckeyes.
“Most of everyone in the country is looking at this particular matchup between Clemson and Ohio State as probably the marquee matchup of all the bowl games, and given that it means a trip to the national championship game it’s that much more exciting,” said Hundley.
Hundley says while the Sugar Bowl parade and other public events tied to the bowl game were canceled, at least they are having a game.
“That’s a victory in such an unusual year with so many cancelations and what have you, but we expect to be back at full throttle next year,” said Hundley.
