Lieutenant General Russel Honore has been appointed to oversee the investigation of Capitol Security after protestors stormed the building on January 6th. LSU Communications Professor Bob Mann said the Pointe Coupee Parish native, is by far the best choice.
“He’s scrupulously honest and blunt, he’s not going to sugarcoat things, when he sees a problem or sees something that’s wrong, he’s going to say so, and he will not hesitate to call out problems when he sees them,” said Mann.
Honore is best known for the leadership he provided as commander of Joint Task Force Katrina, following the historic hurricane in 2005. He retired from the Army in 2008.
Mann said his retirement will assist with the investigation.
“I think that also helps his credibility because he may have to make some hard calls related to current and ex-military people who may have been involved in this,” said Mann.
Mann said the investigation requires the combined efforts of several law enforcement agencies and Honore’s experience in chaos and respect from both political parties makes him ideal for the job.
“If anybody can work with sort of a multiagency investigation and know how to lead and coordinate that, at least from the Capitol standpoint, it’s General Honore,” said Mann.
Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi named Honore to the position on Friday calling for an immediate review of the Capitol’s security infrastructure, and interagency processes and procedures.
