With oil refineries shutting down due to the recent winter weather across the south, gas prices have risen almost 3 cents overnight from 2.25 a gallon to 2.28 a gallon for regular gas. Triple-A Fuel Analyst Don Redman says this is the type of spike we would typically see during hurricane season.
“What we’re looking at in conditions for the winter is very similar to what happens if there was a hurricane, you’re seeing refineries and production coming to a screeching halt.”
Gas prices were already on the rise before the winter storm and the weather only made things worse. Redman believes that gas prices will continue to rise.
“Which is really going to be driving those prices up anywhere from another 10 to 15 cents, that’s our forecast, they’re already up almost 20 cents from a month ago.”
Redman says you should keep your tank full because there could be a gas shortage for quite some time.
“Stay gassed up because there may be some hiccups in the delivery process, you might see some stations that don’t have gasoline for the fact that they just can’t get it delivered.”
