State Treasurer John Schroder told Talk Louisiana host Jim Engster he will not be taking a COVID vaccine.
Schroder was asked about the impending substantial expansion in vaccine eligibility and whether he would recommend anyone who becomes eligible receive a vaccine.
“If the vaccine is something that you feel you need to do, go do it. I personally am not taking the vaccine,” said Schroder.
Schroder said instead he’s focusing on making sure his immune system is strong. Schroder said he’s under a doctor’s care.
“You know, I’ve had long conversations about it and she believes that the best way to attack this is with a strong immune system,” said Schroder. After explaining that his rationale for not taking a vaccine was due to that advice he then confirmed again that he would not be taking a COVID vaccine.
Schroder is a COVID survivor who was hospitalized in early December.
“I had a nice little battle with it. I spent four days in the hospital, it was very personal to me. It was an experience I will tell you that,” said Schroder who added that anyone interested in hearing his personal experience with COVID could reach out to him.
