After a year of upended travel, AAA said if you are planning a trip this year understand that it will be a different experience. AAA spokesperson Don Redman said the keyword is “prepare,” so you aren’t caught off guard by mandates along your travels.
“We always say it’s a personal choice whether you travel or not but we’ve just got to remember that we’re not out of the woods yet and that many areas are still going to have restrictions,” said Redman.
As the vaccines boost confidence to travel Redman recommends using a travel advisor for the most up-to-date information on restrictions, including hotels and rental cars. Plan for stops and know what mandates are there as well. Redman said most will travel by car year.
“For one it’s just the economics of it, two there are the restrictions that you still have at certain airports and certain airlines,” said Redman.
Another reason to use a travel advisor, especially if you travel by air, you might have to carry documentation or even quarantine.
“Depending on your destination you may have to prove that you’ve tested negative for COVID, so it’s very important that you know what the requirements are on your destinations,” said Redman.
Redman suggests a visit to AAA’s COVID-19 Travel Restriction Map and seek advice from a travel advisor.
