The Department of Children and Family Services receives approval to issue a second round of Pandemic EBT benefits to eligible families. DCFS Assistant Secretary Shavana Howard said distribution this time will be different than before.
“In that, there will not be an application process we will be working with the school districts to provide us with information for all of the children who are receiving or eligible for free or reduced-priced meals,” said Howard.
Eligible students in hybrid learning will receive $48 a month and those who had full virtual learning will receive $120 a month.
Howard said they expect the first round of cards will be mailed out to each eligible student in June.
“And that will cover benefits for August 2020 to October 2020 and then we will continue to stagger out issuance to cover the entire school year,” said Howard.
If you fail to receive your P-EBT card in the mail, Howard said to contact your local school to check that you are on the list to receive benefits. Another difference besides not having to apply this time….
“The department will send out cards to every student. If there are three students in the family then that means that they’re going to get three different cards that go out to the families for all eligible students,” said Howard.
Howard said the P-EBT program is to assist with meals that recipients normally would have received if they attended school in person.
