The upcoming Disney+ feature film Crater is set to begin filming around the Baton Rouge area, primarily at Celtic Studios.
Celtic Director of Studio Operations Aaron Bayham said hosting the production is a big win for the struggling Capital City film industry and the regional economy.
“It’s huge news for us and the industry as a whole, especially here in Baton Rouge where we have not had any production since pre-pandemic,” said Bayham.
More than a dozen film and TV projects are reportedly in production or pre-production in Louisiana right now.
The plot is described as a “futuristic teen adventure”.
“It’s kids on the Moon essentially,” said Bayham. “They go out on an adventure on the lunar surface according to what we know about the production.”
The 40 million dollar film plans to employ 325 crew members and 400 extras, with hundreds of Louisianans expected to hired as well.
Despite the big budget, Bayham said he does not anticipate you will see a lot of filming going on around Baton Rouge out in the community.
“It takes place on the Moon and so they obviously can’t go to the Moon to shoot it but they are going to double our sound stages as the Moon,” said Bayham.
