A local developer is hoping to change the skyline in downtown Lafayette. Cliff Guidry with Guidry Land Development has unveiled his plans to build two 20-story high-rise buildings. Guidry said it has been 40 years since the last high rise was built in the Hub City.
“The reason it came about is I’m actually doing a project in Orange Beach, Alabama, and going through the process made me realize that I may be able to do the same thing in my hometown of Lafayette,” said Guidry.
While the development in Alabama is condominiums, Guidry said he used the same business model to develop Seven16 Lafayette tower. Guidry wants the towers to eclipse others and be the tallest in Acadiana. His original idea for Lafayette was office space however…
“We’ve gotten probably 200 calls already from yesterday to today overwhelming wanting condos and office space. So, what we’re doing is allowing ourselves to just be flexible,” said Guidry.
Guidry, a developer for more than two decades, said he has never seen such a booming real estate market. He said he is especially surprised coming out of a pandemic with sales prices per square foot so high and record low-interest rates.
“So, when you couple that with everyone being on the sidelines for a year, year and a half, people are just ready to be active again,” said Guidry.
Construction is expected to begin on the $140-millon development in the fall and Guidry wants the development the be the tallest in Acadiana.
