The Rolling Stone name Jazz Fest as one of the 14 stops they’ll make on their fall No Filter tour. The rock legends will play a special “Jazz Fest Wednesday” show on October 13th between the festival’s two weekends.
Festival producer Quint Davis said the show is two years in the making and happened because Mick Jagger made it a point to make sure they played the iconic festival. In 2019 the Stones were set to play Jazz Fest, but tragedy struck.
“That was the year that Mick Jagger had a heart problem and they canceled that whole tour,” said Davis. “Then they rescheduled the tour for 2020, which nobody knew we were going to have them on, and then that got canceled because of the pandemic!”
Davis said the Stones have been itching to play the iconic festival. Since the disastrous 1969 show in Altamont they really haven’t played many festivals.
“They just play their own shows, they only play stadiums. There’s only 14 shows in America on this tour and we are one of them, and every other one of them is in a stadium,” said Davis who added the Wednesday gig will be a full day with the other stages packed and food stalls will be open.
The Stones join Stevie Nicks, Foo Fighters, Dead and Company, Jimmy Buffet, Lizzo, and Demi Lovato for this year’s stacked lineup.
“It just elevates the Jazz Fest to a whole nother level nationally and internationally,” said Davis. “All of the other big rock festivals are coming back and we want to be right up there but I think we just passed them up a little bit.”
Tickets go on sale July 30th at 10 AM.
