State Commissioner of Administration Jay Dardenne said the Edwards Administration is working on plans to require state workers to either be vaccinated or submit to periodic COVID tests.
Pfizer received full FDA authorization Monday. Dardenne said with that in hand they will be establishing a vaccination policy for the roughly 30,000 state employees.
“In the event that you are not required to be vaccinated we still are going to say that if you are not vaccinated there is going to be a mandatory testing program set up for you,” said Dardenne. “We think this ought to be an incentive for people who have delayed the vaccination to now get vaccinated since the FDA and CDC are recognizing that vaccines are safe and effective.”
The frequency and duration of that mandatory testing program that will be implemented has not been determined yet but Dardenne assured workers that they won’t be coming out of pocket for those tests if they are implemented. An AP report suggested federal funds would be used to pay for the testing policy.
