It’s Orgeron versus Orgeron when LSU hosts McNeese for the Fighting Tigers home opener in Tiger Stadium on Saturday night. LSU Coach Ed Orgeron is looking for a good showing after a season-opening loss to UCLA, while Coach O’s son, Cody Orgeron is the starting QB for the Pokes.
“Kind of a difficult situation, but I can’t really get caught up in that personal or that type of mindset, just another football game to me, going out there and trying to win, any given Saturday any team can win, that’s why you play the game, so go lace up the cleats and let it fly,” said Cody Orgeron.
Orgeron started three games in 2018 and became the full-time starter in 2019. This past week, Orgeron threw for a career-high 361 yards in a season-opening loss to West Florida.
Cody’s two other brothers currently serve on LSU’s coaching staff and Cody admits during the summer he gave his twin brother Parker the business.
“Definitely in Cancun this summer I was poking fun with Parker, just talking a little trash here and there, getting him riled up, just having fun with it though, it’s all fun and games, it’s all love, but I feel like closer the game gets the more serious it gets,” said Cody Orgeron.
McNeese went 3-and-4 during a special spring season. Ed Orgeron attended all of those games. Cody says he wasn’t there to scout the Cowboys.
“I think he really came here as a Dad though and in support of his son, he wasn’t really game planning or scheming, seeing our tendencies and stuff, he’s the best dad a kid can ask for, he was definitely just coming here to watch his son, just being a normal parent for once,” said Cody Orgeron.
