Today is Governor John Bel Edwards’ 55th birthday. Edwards is the state’s 56th governor and has nearly two and half years left in his second and final term. During his monthly “Ask the Governor” radio show, Edwards was asked about running for President one day. The governor says he doesn’t see a presidential campaign in his future.
“I love my wife and I want to keep her and I’m pretty sure I’m not running for president going forward, she’s not on board for that,” said Edwards.
It’s been rumored Edwards could challenge Republican Senator John Kennedy in next year’s U-S Senate race. But the governor says he has no plans to run for another political office.
“Look I’m not intending to run for any additional offices, I’m looking forward to the private sector and returning to my home in Roseland,” said Edwards.
Edwards says it’s a privilege to serve Louisiana, but challenging and he plans to continue serving Louisiana once his term ends, but not in politics.
“Donna and I have an awful lot that we want to accomplish and government service is one way to serve, but there are other ways we can contribute as well,” said Edwards.
