A total of 22 students have been arrested over the past two days at Southwood High School in Shreveport after multiple fights broke out on campus. Caddo Parish Sheriff’s spokesperson, Bia Roldan, says nine deputies responded to the school Thursday when a fight broke out in front of the student center.
“It got out of hand and the SRO (School Resource Officer) on campus had to call for backup,” said Roldan.
Roldan says on Friday morning another eight students, two groups of teenage girls ages 14 to 17, were arrested for fighting.
“This has been an ongoing thing and we are actually sending more deputies to patrol the area for now and it’s probably going on for next week,” said Roldan.
All of the students arrested were charged with disturbing the peace and face possible expulsion. Roldan says one student was charged with battery on an assistant school principal.
“While all of this was happening that assistant principal was supposedly trying to break up the fight and got hurt in the fight process,” said Roldan.
Caddo Parish Superintendent Dr. T. Lamar Goree believes the fight started the night before at an apartment complex. He says they are also dealing with gangs.
Some of the students involved will be sent to alternative schools.
